Dismantling doesn't include any harmful steps. Nonetheless workers should wear personal protection equipment like gloves, goggles, apron and robust shoes.

Note: This is a general guide for most fax machines. As the construction can differ, the dismantling steps mentioned below can vary in their order. However, the described steps show what parts the removal should focus on.

What you need

      • Remove all paper from the fax machine.

      • Break off the lid.

      • Remove the front panel.

      • Unscrew the case.

      • Open the case.

      • Unscrew the motor bracket.

      • Unscrew and remove the paper feed.

      • Unscrew and remove the speaker.

      • Unscrew the connection PWB.

      • Unhinge the connection PWB and remove it.

      • Unscrew and remove the second PWB.

      • Remove the battery from the PWB.

      • Unscrew the power PWB.

      • Remove aluminium heat sinks from the power PWB.

      • Remove the coil from the power PWB.

      • Remove the motor.

      • Remove the lamp.

      • Remove the motor from the casing.

      • Remove the complete print head sled.

      • Remove the print head.

      • Remove the tooth belt.

      • Remove the second motor.

      • Remove any metal parts.

      • Unscrew and remove the front panel.

      • Dismantle the front panel.

      • Cut the display loose from the PWB.

      • Unscrew the display.

      • Cut the wires from the display.

      • Bend the display from its PWB and remove it.

      • Separate the remaining materials according to their type and go on with the appropriate data sheet (e.g. aluminium, ferrous metals, plastic, further PWBs, etc.).

      • Make sure the plastic parts are completely free of metal pieces.
