Dismantling doesn't include any harmful steps. Nonetheless workers should wear personal protection equipment like gloves, goggles, apron and robust shoes.

Note: This is a general guide for most stereo systems. As the construction can differ, the dismantling steps mentioned below can vary in their order. However, the described steps show what parts the removal should focus on.

  1. Remove the tapes, in case there are any left inside. Cut off the power cable.
    • Remove the tapes, in case there are any left inside.

  2. Remove all the screws from the case. Remove all the screws from the case. Remove all the screws from the case.

  3. Remove the case. Fold metal cases for better storage.

  4. Remove the screws from the CD deck. Remove the CD deck. Seperate the large parts.

  5. Remove the wires from the PWBs. Unscrew the PWBs and remove them. Unscrew the PWBs and remove them.
    • Remove the wires from the PWBs.

    • Unscrew the PWBs and remove them.

  6. Remove the CD drive.
    • Remove the CD drive.

  7. Unscrew the cog from the motor. Pry off the case of the motor.
    • Unscrew the cog from the motor.

    • Pry off the case of the motor.

  8. Unscrew the PWB and remove it. Remove the magnet from the motor.
    • Unscrew the PWB and remove it.

    • Remove the magnet from the motor.

  9. Cut the wires. Remove all the screws from the PWB.
    • Cut the wires.

    • Remove all the screws from the PWB.

  10. Unscrew the PWB of the display. Cut off the wires of the display PWB.
    • Unscrew the PWB of the display.

    • Cut off the wires of the display PWB.

  11. Bend off the display. Cut off the display.
    • Bend off the display.

    • Cut off the display.

  12. Unscrew the display and lever it off. Unscrew the display and lever it off.
    • Unscrew the display and lever it off.

  13. Unscrew the frame. Remove any large capacitor.
    • Unscrew the frame.

    • Remove any large capacitor.

  14. Cut the wires off the PWB. Remove the screws from the aluminium  heat sinks. Remove the screws from the aluminium  heat sinks.
    • Cut the wires off the PWB.

    • Remove the screws from the aluminium heat sinks.

  15. Unscrew and remove the remaining heat sinks. Again, remove any other large capacitors. Again, remove any other large capacitors.
    • Unscrew and remove the remaining heat sinks.

    • Again, remove any other large capacitors.

  16. Unscrew and remove the coil. Unscrew and remove the coil.
    • Unscrew and remove the coil.

  17. Separate the remaining materials according to their type and go on with the appropriate data sheet (e.g. aluminium, ferrous metals, plastic, further PWBs, etc.).
    • Separate the remaining materials according to their type and go on with the appropriate data sheet (e.g. aluminium, ferrous metals, plastic, further PWBs, etc.).

    • Make sure the plastic parts are completely free of metal pieces.
